Foggy Boating and PA Crab Fest

We attempted to extend the wakeboarding season deep into October, but failed.  The Saturday morning fog wouldn't lift and we had a Crab Festival to get to, so after a very quick polar bear dip, we abandoned the idea of late fall boarding.

The crab fest was in Port Angeles.  Saturday turned out to be quite sunny once the fog left so it was a good weekend to be near the water.  We caught the Edmonds-Kingston ferry in the afternoon and made it to the fest by dinner time... mmm dungeness.  Hung out at Rick's Place until late.  Cheesecake and Rick with his giant remote and crooked stick were good enough to convince us to return for breakfast this morning.

"Do their business"... I apologize for being so graphic

The saga continues... mostly because Brandon is fueling the fire .  My favorite part is when Tom includes Julie and Sloan and apologizes for his forthcoming poo talk.  He's so dirty.

Julie and Sloan,

This email is kind of graphic about dog behaviors, but I wanted to include you in my response, so you might want to ignore some of it.

Brandon,

Thank you for being responsible it really is appreciated. Trust me, cleaning up daily for my dog (large like yours) does demonstrate how much one cares for their dog!

I have found that a dog will behave how they are trained. The training classes I took at Riverdog with Dante enforced that walks should not be equated to this activity and that training them with keywords and rewards to do their business on request helps. The training does indeed work.

As well, I feed my dog once a day and at the same time with a quality food product. This allows for predictable, regular results and allows pet owners to ensure their dog does not need to do their business while on a walk. As well encouraging then to do their business before you leave on the walk usually guarantees not needing to carry that bag home. Dante does not need to normally do this activity when walking, so I guess I see that it is possible to not have this activity occur while walking and look for others to accomplish this goal too.

This was not intended to be tattle-tale behavior. These activities are occurring when the homeowner is not home and they need the help of their neighbors to determine who it is. Like the block watch we just want people to notice the activity and report it, so that we can address those doing the activity directly. Also, those impacted have talked to people that they have seen doing some of these activities only to be ignored, so that is the reason of escalating it.

Tom.

We too are responsible pet owners and use the common practice of using bags or a pooper scooper to clean up after our pets.  If there are people not doing this, they should be informed that this is unacceptable and if the behavior continues, they should be fined.  It is unreasonable to think that while you are walking your dog, they will not have to do their business at some point.

I believe that your blanket emails are encouraging tattle-tale behavior that is not conducive to a friendly community.  I ask that instead of sending out these emails, you encourage the offended people to talk with the offenders, or if they are not willing to do this that you talk with them directly.

Are you serial?

We just got another love note sent to the neighborhood from the president of our home owner's association.  This letter and its many predecessors tells me: a) the title "HOA President" means substantially more to Tom than it does to me, b) there exists a group of passive-aggressive busy bodies in the neighborhood and they have Tom's ear, c) dog walking is either not allowed or dogs must poo directly into a bag, d) people would rather "tell on" their neighbors than have a frank conversation about poo or anything else, and - the recurring theme - e) Tom is a better person than I.

If you have a dog this message specifically applies to you and you need to read this message now.

Since I understand completely what is involved in pet ownership and take this issue very seriously, I am sending this email to address a problem that is occurring.

As a responsible pet owner of a 95 pound German Shepherd dog, I must make it absolutely clear that allowing your dog to use other homeowners property as a toilet for your pet is absolutely not allowed. I understand if you have children or others walking the dog, but they must also not do this and it is your responsibility to teach them appropriate pet ownership skills.

Urination will burn a yard leaving a dead circle please do not allow this activity on others lawns. Feces is a health hazard and should not be deposited on others lawns regardless if you pick it up. Allowing feces to remains is absolutely not allowed and will result in a fine being levied. If you are too good to pick up after your dog, they why should others be made to do it for you?

It was recommended that we identify the pet owners exhibiting this totally rude and obnoxious behavior and place a sign on their front yard advertising their property as a “public pet toilet” area for all the neighborhood pets. While in jest, it sounded like a great way to demonstrate how their bad behavior impacts others within the community. Maybe if they saw first hand what other homeowners face, simply because of their proximity to one of these problem areas they would change their behavior.

If you cannot comply with this common-sense, responsible behavior, then I recommend you no longer be a pet owner. The association will be fining those discovered to be violating the Association Rule. I ask homeowners to report irresponsible pet owners to me immediately upon discovery.

Talking about Charlotte Friis Design Studio > Childrens Paper Chair

Nice multi-purpose element.  If the paper is absorbent, even the better...

The Chair is made with drawing paper, as the
paper is being “drawn upon”, the size of the front

Arrested Development - Thanks Charlize

I try not to get hooked on the shows, but I can't get enough of the Bluths.  Seems they're coming back on 9/19 and Charlize is going to attempt to help us save the show (Fox keeps threatening to cancel).  Fingers crossed CT.
